Work through page size, preview and a one-page test before printing a whole document.

BEFORE YOU START

Match the paper size, inspect scaling and print one representative page before committing to the full document.

Compare the PDF with the loaded paper

Open the PDF in your preferred viewer and inspect its page size in document properties where available. Select the paper size actually loaded in your printer. A mismatch between A4 and Letter can change how much content fits.

Check scale and orientation in print preview

Start with a fit-to-printable-area option if your goal is to retain all visible content. Match portrait or landscape to the page. Exact option names vary by viewer, so watch the preview rather than assuming the first setting is suitable.

Print a representative page first

Choose a page containing a footer, border or wide table. Print just that page and compare its edges with the on-screen copy. If the page contains a ruler, form or scale-sensitive drawing, verify dimensions before proceeding.

Print the remaining pages

Once the test is satisfactory, use the same settings for the rest of the file. For mixed page sizes or orientations, review each group separately. Keep the PDF unchanged so you can retry with different print settings.

Do not confuse crop PDF with printer scaling

A PDF cropper changes the visible area of a page. Print scaling changes how the page fits on paper. Before using crop PDF online, check whether the issue can be resolved in print settings without altering the document.

Check a PDF viewer before exporting another format

Use a PDF viewer to examine the original page at normal size. A PDF to photo converter may create an image suitable for a specific workflow, but converting a page to a picture can reduce text clarity if the output resolution is too low.

A practical example

For a report with wide tables, test the widest table page. A cover page with generous margins will not reveal the same clipping problem.

Check your result

Use actual size only when dimensions matter and the content fits. Check a physical test print for scale-sensitive material.
